Umuokpu Mbaise is
a Sisterhood Association
Our Story
The birth of Umuokpu Mbaise Association, DFW began 14 years ago. Umuokpu Mbaise is the greatest of all female forums in Igbo land. It is a robust social community in Igbo culture, it comprises of only women and is a functional forum for women. Umuokpu also plays a significant role in matters such as birth, marriage, death, and other traditional community affairs. Umuokpu Mbaise is a collection of all daughters from a particular clan, village, town, or state, a group of native daughters, daughters of a common male ancestor. Membership of this forum is the absolute right of all women born of the same male lineage. Even when a woman marries outside the village or town setting, she remains Ada of her father’s community. They are the “daughters of the soil.” In all social functions from marital rites to title taking, Umuokpu plays an important role. As an assembly, they are pampered and treated well, or they will raise hell, and no one wants to tango with them. Communities treat the children of Umuokpu mainly, even though they belong to a different clan or town. If the children of Umuokpu encounter difficulties, they and their families are welcomed to come back to the community as children of the land. They play a significant role in the preservation and promotion of peace in the communities. Umuokpu Mbaise DFW Association began in March 2011 with the founder, Chief Mrs Bridget Ihediwa and ladies whose great mission was to unify all daughters of Mbaise in the United States of America and Nigeria and complete projects that will improve the quality of life of our women and children. We also gather and pray for members and even non-members. Umuokpu Mbaise Association is open to all Mbaise daughters marriage in or outside Mbaise. Our association came into being after I traveled home and witnessed the living conditions of most of our women and children. The urge to assist our women and children at home gave rise to various discussions with our sisters here in Dallas/ Fort worth(DFW), and this eventually gave birth to Umuokpu Mbaise Association, DFW. |
The Aim of our Association includes:
* To improve the health and living conditions of our women and children in Mbaise in particular, and in Ala- Igbo in general and to set up an orphanage home in Mbaise.
* To empower our women/sister to be economically independent and be a source of help to themselves and their spouses.
* To offer scholarships to our bright and less privileged sons and daughters in Mbaise and Ala-Igbo in general.
* To promote peace and unity in our community and promote inter-community marriages amongst our sons and daughters here in DFW.
* To set up an ultra modern dialysis center in Mbaise.
Umuokpu Mbaise is an association that every women born in Mbaise should hunger to join.
